Serves as the local site nutrition expert. Serve as a Certifying Professional Authority, certifying patients to receive WIC benefits. Develops nutrition care plans and provides individual nutrition education and group nutrition education classes to WIC recipients. Coordinates, develops and manages high risk WIC nutrition care plans by evaluating nutritional and medical assessments and socio-economic date. Initiates and follows-up intervention through counseling and referrals. Interprets scientific information regarding food, nutrition, diet, and health to professionals, agencies and the public by conference calls, webinars, public lectures and printed literature. Participates in the coordination and development of quarterly staff meetings for WIC paraprofessional staff. Prescribe and print individualized food packages that are nutritionally appropriate for WIC participants. Review and evaluate for approval and appropriateness WIC special formula prescriptions. Communicate with medical providers to improve the nutrition well-being of WIC participants. Use PHAME computerized program to document all nutrition assessments and counseling. Perform some clerical, nutrition educator and health educator duties including scheduling WIC appointments upon request or when needed. Provide breastfeeding encouragement and support to WIC participants, maintain inventory of breast pumps and special formula, and demonstrate the use of and assembly of breast pumps. Conduct outreach as dictated in the Louisiana WIC policy manual. Position is domiciled in Iberville Parish at the Iberville Parish Health Unit in Plaquemine, Louisiana, but may travel throughout the region (West Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge, West Feliciana, East Feliciana and Point Coupee) to provide WIC services.
Must be a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist with possession of a permanent Louisiana Dietitian/Nutritionist License plus two years of professional level experience in public health nutrition or dietetics in a clinical or hospital setting.
